One of the things that I was surprised by when I moved to this area was that all the men here cook. And they cook well. It really shouldn’t be that unusual but in a farming community, traditionally the men are out on the farm and the women cook. I’m not sure why it’s different here but I promise you it’s a wonderful thing to share the responsibility for meals.
Randy and I have been working on a project to put his recipes and mine into a series of cookbooks. Because we are both busy, most of the recipes are simple. They don’t have tons of ingredients and they don’t take hours of preparation time to prepare. They are the favorite recipes of our children and this project is partially for them.
The first in the series is Randy’s Real Man’s Venison Cookbook. Venison was my second surprise. I had never had it prior to moving here and quickly discovered that it is delicious and healthy. It is almost a staple. If you don’t have access to venison, you can substitute lean (and inexpensive) beef for any of these recipes.
